Graduated from UW-Milwaukee with bachelor’s degree in Russian. She co-founded BIP with Bob Heffernan in summer of 2011. She is from Appleton, Wisconsin and enjoys spending time with her family there. She currently lives in Bayview with her boyfriend of two years. Becca’s interests include reading, watching movies and TV, comedy, and languages.
He founded The Burmese Immersion Project because his Burmese refugee tenants were not learning English and were not gaining the knowledge or skills to be successful members of the community. Bob assists other underserved populations with their housing needs such as foster children with their first apartments. Bob’s interests include bee keeping, Jungian psychology and Buddhism. He lives in Shorewood with his wife of 30 years, Sandy.
Jennifer Bryce Conigliaro
Jennifer has been involved with the Burmese Immersion Project since October 2011. She is a certified 6-12 English teacher with experience teaching in a number of school districts, including Milwaukee Public Schools. Jennifer holds a Master’s degree in English linguistics and presently works as an English language learner instructional aide in the Shorewood School District. She currently lives in Shorewood with her husband and two children.
She joined BIP in the summer of 2011. Her favorite things to do with BIP include watching July 4th fireworks and celebrating Christmas with the refugee students and their parents. Ling received her B.S. in Microbiology from Michigan State University and Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the Medical College of Wisconsin. Currently, Ling works as a medical researcher studying breast cancer and vascular anomalies. In her spare time, Ling enjoys reading, cooking, hiking, swimming, and playing tennis. She lives with her son and husband in West Allis.
She is a medical social worker with Aurora Health Care and resides in Milwaukee. Courtney received her Master’s degree in Social Work from UW-Milwaukee and previously lived in Eau Claire, WI where she received her undergraduate degree in Social Work with a minor in Spanish. In her free time, Courtney enjoys volunteering with BIP as well as other projects through her church. Traveling is one of Courtney’s favorite activities, not only in the United States but internationally. She also enjoys running, reading, spending time with family and friends, and eating ethnic food.
